Question: We have been given a grant for a Car Seat Check Safety Program. We have one staff member who is certified to do this and will be the instructor/teacher of other staff members on how to do the safety checks. Would those staff members’ time be countable as a community benefit? We identified the need for the program through recommendations for car seat safety from the CDC and the American College of Surgeons. The program will be offered to community members and we will reach out to car dealers to get the word out.
Recommendation: We recommend that the expense of staff members engaged in the Car Seat Check Safety Program be reported as community benefit in the category of Community Health Improvement, Health Care Support Services. Be sure to offset the expense with the contribution from the grant.
